This autumn, physical activity in Võru Municipality has been lively with many participants. In September, running training and BodyArt took place in Puiga and Vastseliina, respectively. In October, we moved on the terrain with and without poles, meaning the Võru Municipality Nordic walking day in Juba village and the opening hike of the hiking series in Verijärve-Andsumäe. A total of approximately 90 participants delight the organizers and add motivation for organizing future events.

Puiga Running Training

On September 17 at the Puiga stadium, despite the rain, 20 brave and running enthusiasts gathered for training. The training, which was conducted in a joyful atmosphere, was led by Deporte sports club coach Jürgen Külm. He had put together a varied program: warming up exercises, controlled pace sprints, a 4 x 200-meter run at a moderate pace, strength exercises for the legs, and relaxation exercises to finish.

The training provided moderate stress and valuable training experience. Thanks to all participants and coach, Jürgen Külm!

BodyArt Training in Vastseliina

On September 21, at the Vastseliina community center, 13 participants enjoyed a pleasant hour and 40-minute workout for the body. The training offered both physical exertion and relaxation. Under Maire Kauri's guidance, the training started with muscle exercises followed by calm and flowing BodyArt exercises.

Võru Municipality Sports Coordinator Asko Saarepuu considers BodyArt training highly recommended as it impacts the whole body, improves muscle strength and joint mobility, and increases flexibility.

Coach Maire Kauri's classes at the Vastseliina community center are held on

  • Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and Fridays at 9 a.m. for BodyArt
  • Wednesdays at 6 p.m. for muscle training
  • Sundays at 5 p.m. for muscle training and circuit training

Contact coach Maire Kauri at phone 5636 5672 and join suitable training sessions if interested!

Nordic Walking Day in Juba Village

On the afternoon of October 12, 20 cheerful Nordic walkers gathered at the Juba village square to enjoy movement and autumn colors together. The day started with a short introduction to Nordic walking, followed by a roughly six-kilometer loop prepared by the Juba Village Society. Elderly participants took a slightly shorter route at their own pace. The trail went through the forest and village roads, crossed over the railway, and offered a beautiful view of Lake Vagula. After the walk, the Juba Village Society offered delicious cake and pastries, as well as aromatic herbal tea.

Võru Municipality Nordic Walking Day was a success – movement, fresh air, and good company made it a pleasant day, proving once again that Nordic walking is an accessible and enjoyable hobby for everyone.

PS! You can calculate the correct pole length for Nordic walking with the formula – your height x 0.68 = pole length.

Thanks to the warm welcome of the Juba Village Society and instructors Mae Krillo, Marianne Hermann, and Heiki Prants!

Hiking Series Opening Hike in Verijärve-Andsumäe

On Saturday, October 18, Võru Municipality's hiking series opening hike took place, where Hetkeretked led the way for a walk of nearly 12 kilometers from the edge of Lake Verijärve to Andsumäe and back.

The organizers were positively surprised by the large group of nature enthusiasts who signed up for the hike. The ideal autumn weather brought moderate coolness and sunshine, allowing the autumn-colored tree leaves to sparkle distinctly.

Initially, the group walked along the banks of Lake Verijärve and through the local nature reserve, where the guide shared stories about the lake's formation, history, legends, and the former Vastse-Kasaritsa manor by the lake shore. The forest revealed many interesting finds – a fox's den and a tree rich in biodiversity, visually striking with mosses, lichens, and fungi.

The Three Kings' Bridge was a highlight, familiar to some hikers while a surprising discovery for others, despite having driven over it many times without noticing the bridge.

A break was taken at the Puiga song stage for rest and sweets. Next awaited Andsumäe and its ski jumping tower. Using old photos, the history of building the towers was revealed, and some took the opportunity to climb the tower for the views.

At Kosel, a detour was made to the shore of Lake Valgjärv. The penultimate stop was at the location of the former Kirepi tavern and community house, where through old photos and cultural heritage stories, the site was briefly introduced to the hikers.

At the end of the hike, participants had tea and cookies, sharing positive emotions. The wish was expressed that such hikes could be more frequent. Stay tuned for the announcement of the next hike date and location!

Võru Municipality Cultural and Youth Center and Hetkeretked thank all participants of the opening hike. The project "Development of the Võru Municipality Sports Sector" made the hiking series possible.

Sports Bingo

During the lunch break on October 7, the Võru Municipality employees played sports bingo. A total of 24 municipality workers participated in the fun and energetic sports bingo held around the Võru Town Hall.

The bingo tasks were diverse – the exercises involved different joints and muscle groups, offering everyone a fun movement opportunity in the middle of the workday. Participants received a wealth of ideas on how to do morning exercises and energizing breaks during the workday to stimulate themselves throughout the day. After the 30-minute exercise game, faces were happy and bodies pleasantly satisfied – several municipality employees noted that such activities could be organized more frequently, even once a week.

At the end of the sports bingo, everyone enjoyed a warm soup, bringing the participants together and ending the pleasant movement moment on a high note.

Regular active movement keeps the mind fresh and the body healthy in autumn! The running training, BodyArt training, Nordic walking day, opening hike of the hiking series in Verijärve-Andsumäe, as well as sports bingo and exercise games took place as part of the project "Development of the Võru Municipality Sports Sector."
