Summer Sports Events Brought Communities Together
This summer, there were many sports events in Võru municipality that brought together both large and active as well as small and more modest sports enthusiasts.
Ball Boxes for Youth and Families
The newly installed ball boxes in the playgrounds of Võru municipality have been quickly put to use. They provide children and youth with a safe and creative opportunity for movement – trying out skills, learning to handle the ball, and simply spending time with friends. Several parents have discovered that the ball boxes give children a reason to come outside from behind the screen.
The ball boxes are placed in the following sports grounds of Võru municipality:
- At Puiga Basic School basketball court;
- At Parksepa High School sports field;
- At Kääpa School sports field;
- At Vastseliina ice rink;
- At Orava Stadium;
- At Kose playground;
- At Parksepa song festival ground;
- At Väimela sports field;
- At Sõmerpalu community center playground;
- At Osula Basic School basketball court.
The ball boxes are open to all residents and guests of the municipality to provide opportunities for exercise and play at any time.
This could be placed in a separate colorful box with the article:
Important Reminder – take the ball for playing and enjoy sports. After the game, put the ball back in the box, close the lid – this way, the next players can use the ball. Let's together keep the balls and ball boxes in order so that they last long and bring joy to everyone!
Basketball Tournament in Vastseliina
On August 6, the first Võru municipality 3x3 basketball tournament was held at Vastseliina ice rink. There were seven youth teams in the competition (three girls' teams and four boys' teams) and one team representing the villages. There was fierce competition on the court, and the audience enjoyed tense final matches.
In the youth tournament, the winners in the girls' category were Parksepa girls. In the boys' category, the best were the boys from Vastseliina. In the adult tournament, thirteen teams were drawn into three groups. After intense and evenly matched group games, exciting placement matches followed, resulting in Mõksi-Raiste team winning. Navi came second, and Kose team finished third.
In addition to the sporting competition, it was a nice community gathering place for friends, neighbors, and basketball enthusiasts. Many thanks to all participants, villages, spectators, and helpers – together we made it a truly great basketball evening! Thanks to the Võrumaa Sports Union for their support and collaboration, which helped to smoothly organize the tournament, and to the event sponsors Võrumaa Food Center and Pro Optika.
Disc Golf Training – New Sport, New Skill
In August, in collaboration with Võru municipality, Võru Municipality Cultural and Youth Center, and Võru Disc Golf Club, a disc golf training took place, attracting both young people and adults to the Võru disc golf course in Kubija. On August 7, experienced instructors Innar Raag and Sander Liiva introduced throwing techniques, rules, and basic principles of movement on the course. Some participants discovered a new hobby that can be enjoyed with family and friends. Disc golf provides a great opportunity for outdoor movement and testing one's skills.
The basketball tournament and disc golf training took place within the project 'Development of the Sports Sector in Võru Municipality.'
These initiatives show that movement and sports are highly valued in Võru municipality. Whether it's bouncing a ball in a ball box, the excitement of a basketball competition, or a precise throw on the disc golf course – everyone can find a preferred way to spend actively. The sports life in the municipality is vibrant and growing together with the community.
