Võru municipality's first movement seminar brought together active and motivated community members
The idea for Võru municipality's first movement seminar started to sprout in November last year when the design of sports services began. 'We realized that there was a need for a community meeting, knowledge exchange, and inspiration in the field of movement and physical education. We wanted to create a platform where physical education teachers from schools and kindergartens, representatives from sports clubs, and enthusiasts in the field could meet, discuss, and learn from each other,' said Asko Saarepuu, the sports coordinator at Võru municipality's cultural and youth center, who organized the movement seminar.
The seminar day was diverse and engaging. The day started with a panel discussion where local leaders Henn Antson, Piret Kahre, Annika Eliste, Piia Õispuu, and Merike Õun discussed involving people in physical activity. This was followed by Ülle Puustusmaa's presentation introducing the document on the design of sports services. Cristina Kroon's inspiring presentation on the relationship between the brain and movement highlighted the importance of movement in supporting cognitive processes. Raido Ränkel focused on willpower, motivation, and time management. Siim Tõnisson conducted a practical session of movement games, followed by Sandra Raju's mobility training. The day concluded with a panel discussion involving the speakers of the day and council member Ilmar Kesslemann, providing a meaningful discussion on shaping movement habits, inspiring guidance, and lifelong activity. The day's sessions and panel discussions were moderated by Margus Ader.
63 people registered for Võru municipality's movement seminar, out of which 56 participated in person. The participants were very satisfied with the speakers – all presentations were informative, inspiring, and practical. The panel discussions brought together different perspectives on movement motivation and collaboration in the field. 'The most valuable aspect for me was that the event really brought people together in the field of movement – for exchanging ideas and generating new ones,' said sports coordinator Asko Saarepuu.
'I was delighted to see the participants' engagement, immediate reactions, and positive feedback on-site. The seminar was fast-paced and detailed, accompanied by active movement. Collaboration with partners (speakers, technology, venues) went smoothly,' said Saarepuu. 'Based on the feedback, it is clear that similar gatherings are expected in the future – and as an organizer, this gives motivation to continue,' he added.
A big thank you to the whole team who contributed to the organization of the movement seminar; every contribution was important and confirms the team's good functioning.
The event took place within the project 'Development of the sports sector in Võru municipality.'
