Young People of Sõmerpalu Organized Playback Show for the Third Time
The youth from the Sõmerpalu youth room organized a humorous and well-prepared imitation competition at the Sõmerpalu community center on March 14, which has already become a tradition.
The participants of the Võru municipality's youth playback show were very resourceful, and costumes and props played an important role. The aim of the competition was to imitate a music video of a freely chosen artist displayed on the wall as closely to the original as possible. Both Estonian and foreign artists' work was performed. In total, young people aged 7-19 participated in eight different groups: six from the Sõmerpalu youth room, one group from the Orava youth room, and one from the Parksepa youth center.
Helje Võõras, a youth worker at the Sõmerpalu youth room, said that the event is necessary for young people to develop their performance skills, teamwork, social skills, stage movement, and to allow young people to try to overcome themselves.
The three best groups were awarded at the competition. The winner was the Sõmerpalu youth Aaron Lindmets with the imitation of Tommy Cash's song "Espresso macciato." The second place was taken by Sõmerpalu youth Sebastian Pikas with PIKATARO's song "PPAP (Pen Pineapple Apple Pen)." The third place went to the Orava youths Eliise Kristel, Stella Kapparov, Nelli Kapparov, Daniel Valdmaa, and Marina-Eleena Kiviste, who performed Marcus and Martinus' song "Unforgettable." In addition, the audience and jury favorite were also selected at the playback show. Both voted for the Sõmerpalu youth and youth worker Helje Võõras who performed Sia's song "Gimme love."
The jury of the imitation competition included Tiia Linnas, a social pedagogue from Osula Basic School, Alina Nagibina, an 11th-grade student from Parksepa High School, Abiturient Mia Joanna Koort from Võru High School, Karl Kirt, the principal of Võru High School, and Abiturient Edvin Erik from Võru High School.
The event was organized and the project application for the Võru municipality's youth initiative support was written by the youth of the Sõmerpalu youth room Anete Kuuskla and Lisandra Taalfeld. Together with youth worker Helje Võõras, they have organized playback shows at the Sõmerpalu youth room for three consecutive years. According to Helje Võõras, the young people in the organizing team were able to develop writing projects, planning activities, hosting, and many other useful skills during this process.
"It was so nice to see the hall full of people. It was also heartening to have many parents among the spectators," said Helje Võõras, a youth worker at the Sõmerpalu youth room, expressing joy about the successful event.
